TMS for Phobias And

Panic Disorders

How Effective is TMS for Treating Phobias and Panic Disorders?

TMS has proved to be 2-3 times more effective in resolving Anxiety-related disorders than anti-depressant medications and/or talk therapy.

While most everyone feels scared or afraid, at times, when fear is perceived to the extent that it prevents one from normal daily living, it becomes a mental disorder.

What are phobias?

A phobia is an intense fear of a specific object, animal, or situation. Two of the more common phobias include fear of heights and fear of dogs.

Phobias are different from typical feelings of fear, as Phobia sufferers actually modify the way they live and function in order to avoid the feared object or situation.  Never traveling due to extreme fear of flying is a phobia, not just a normal ‘fear’. Phobias negatively affect relationships, school, work, and general daily activities.

What is panic disorder?

Panic disorder, like Phobias, is a type of anxiety disorder. It causes panic attacks, which are sudden feelings of terror, when there is no real danger. Panic Attack sufferers often feel as if they are having a heart attack, suffocating, or even dying.

Symptoms of Panic Attack include:

  • racing heartbeat
  • Chest or stomach pain
  • Breathing difficulty
  • Weakness or dizziness
  • Sweating
  • Feeling hot or a cold chill
  • Tingly or numb hands

Panic attacks can happen anytime, anywhere, and without warning. Those who suffer from Panic Attacks live in fear of having a future Panic Attack, thus they avoid places, objects, and situations, where they’ve experienced a Panic Attack, previously.  For some, this fear controls their lives, causing them to become homebound, reclusive, and dysfunctional.

Panic Attacks often present in young adulthood, often when one undergoes intense stress. It usually starts when people are young adults. help.

Who do Phobias and Panic Disorder affect?

Anyone can experience panic disorder or a phobia. The exact cause of Phobias or Panic Disorder is unknown, but they are believed to be caused by a combination of life experiences, genetics, and physical or other mental health problems.
