TMS for Bipolar Disorder
What Is Bipolar Disorder
TMS has proved to be 2-3 times more effective in resolving Bipolar Disorder than anti-depressant medications and/or talk therapy.
Formerly called Manic Depression, Bipolar disorder is a psychological condition manifested by sever mood swings that include emotional highs (called mania or hyper-mania) and lows (depression).
In the manic phase, feelings of euphoria, tremendous energy and increased irritability, among other symptoms are experienced. During depressive episodes, sufferers often feel sad, hopeless, and uninterested in activities, even formerly pleasurable ones. These mood swings can negatively affect sleep, energy levels, interest in activities, judgment, behavior, and clarity of thought.
Mood swings may occur infrequently, or they may occur many times per year. Most sufferers will experience some of the hyper-manic episodes or depressive symptoms between actual episodes.
Age Of Bipolar Disorder Onset?
While bipolar disorder symptoms can manifest at any age, typically it is diagnosed in the teenage years or early 20s.
Bipolar disorder sufferers almost always experience additional, compounding mental health conditions that also require treatment. These attendant conditions may intensify the symptoms of Bipolar disorder, which can minimize the success of Bipolar treatment. Some of these co-occurring conditions include:
- Anxiety disorders
- Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Alcohol or drug problems
- Heart disease, thyroid issues, headaches, or obesity
Antidepressant and mood stabilizing medications for treating Bipolar Disorder are often ineffective, and worse, they have debilitating side effects.
TMS is break-through technology that provides tremendous relief and often full resolution of Bipolar symptoms, without medication. Our San Diego Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Center specializes in providing TMS for Bipolar Disorder.
TMS benefits include:
- High Success Rate – considerably higher success rate than any other treatments
- Non-Invasive – the treatment is entirely external to the body
- Non-Sedative – it requires no sedation and is relatively painless
- Minimal to No Side Effects – it has no side effects in the vast majority of patients
